Another fine bright flue-cured tobacco variety, a heirloom variety dating back many decades. It averages 6′ in height with 18-20 leaves per plant below the crows foot. It reaches maturity when blooms appear at 55 days. The light green leaves average 12″ wide by 24″ long and become a light yellow/green when ripe. Leaves began to ripen as the plant reaches bloom. Flue cures easily to a light golden brown with yields averaging 3 oz of dried leaf per plant.

Golden Burley is a medium flavored Burley with excellent curability. The leaves grow to over 30" long by 12" wide, and turn a bright lemon yellow when ripe. Plants grow to 4 1/2 feet in height with little to no suckering. Matures in 60-65 days after transplant. Air cures to a light buck skin brown color. Requires less aging time than most Burleys.

Paris Wrapper is an heirloom bright leaf variety that is a vigorous early season grower reaching a height of 6 feet. Its leaves grow to 30" long and 20" wide. The leaves are a very light green with white stems. Matures in 60 days and flue cures to a light golden brown.

Nostrano del Brenta

Nostrano del Brenta is an Italian heirloom tobacco with an earthy, woody cured-leaf character and a hint of sweetness. Tobacco was first cultivated in the Brenta River valley of Italy in the 1500s and has been grown there ever since. Historically associated with air-cured leaf used in traditional Italian craft — described here for educational interest only. The plants grow to 6–7 feet in height, are well developed with little to no suckering, and produce large thick leaves that mature in 60–70 days.

Mohawk Rustica

Mohawk Rustica

Mohawk Rustica is native to Central America as was widely cultivated by Native Americans and grown throughout the southern US. It grows to 3' in height and is similar to Aztec, but with less branching. The leaves are thick, dark green in color and are among the largest of any Rustica variety. The flowers are a bright yellow and are densely packed.Mohawk, like other rustica varieties is very high in nicotine content and should be used for blending. So strong in fact is this variety that it can also be used for making insecticide.

Black Sea Samsun originated in the Samsun region of Turkey on the Black Sea. Prized for rich flavor and aroma, but yet mild aromatic character. It matures in 65-70 days and is often sun cured. An excellent oriental type for the garden.

Isleto Puablo

Isleto Puablo

Isleta Pueblo is a Rustica variety originating in New Mexico. It is a very fast grower and matures in under 40 days. Grows to 5 feet. It tolerates cool weather very well and can be planted earlier than many other nicotianas.The leaves are dark green and have a thick rubbery texture. Air cures to a medium brown. Like many other Rusticas, Isleta Pueblo is high in nicotine content and has high alkaloid content and is typically blended or used for botanical insecticide. Also used for making insecticide.

Greenwood, also call Little Wood, is an heirloom fire cured tobacco that is a traditional fire-cured heirloom with large harvestable leaves. It grows 5' to 6' tall with blooming occurring at 55-65 days. It produces 16-18 harvestable leaves averaging 14"-16" wide and 24" long which ripen 2-3 weeks after booming begins.

Costello is a bright leaf variety imported by the USDA from Columbia in 1967. It grows to a height of 5-6 feet with closely spaced leaves. Plant form is an inverted cone. Matures in 60-65 days. Ripens evenly and is easy to flue cure whether primed or hung whole. Has a high nicotine content at 24mg/g of dried leaf. Mild flavored.

Harrow Velvet is a medium flavored Burley with excellent curability and a short aging time. Columnar plant form with tightly spaced leaves which are very uniform in size. Almost no suckering. Leaves average 24" in length by 14" wide and turn a golden yellow as they ripen. Mature in 65-70 days. Leaf cures to a medium brown. An excellent plant for priming or to cut and hang whole. Very good wind and frost resistance. This plant carries what I think is a great name for a tobacco, don't you think?

This is an unclassified tobacco. It grows to around 3 feet in height and has very dark green leaves. It produces a fair amount of tobacco, but its most striking feature is its large magenta red flowers which contrast against the deep green leaves. A good dual purpose plant.

Sherazi is a Turkish variety grown in Iran. The leaves tend to be small but abundant. It is prized for its flavor and aroma, and is usually sun cured, it matures in about 60 days.

Catterton

Catterton

A heirloom Maryland type tobacco. A very good producer with sharp pointed leaves growing to over 30 inches long and 16 inches wide. Air cures easily to a rich reddish brown color. A medium-flavoured leaf which air-cures well. Historically classed as a Maryland-type heirloom. Matures in 60-65 days. Although some growers have reported heavy suckering with Catterton, ours have produced nearly none. This variety is one of our personal favorites.

This is one of our newer varieties, apparently originally smuggled out of Cuba in cotton balls. Piloto Cubano is a tobacco named for the town it came from in the Pinar del Rio region of Cuba. Loosely translated Piloto Cubano means "pilot seed" It originated in Cuba around 1960 and is popular variety of Cuban-seed tobacco developed and grown in the Dominican Republic. It is mainly used as a filler and is typically a stronger tobacco with hints of cinnamon. The plants grow quite large reaching 9-10 feet and have smooth leaves with yields of 20 leaves per plant. The leaves are large and dark green, becoming yellow at the edges when ripe. Maturity is about 75 -80 days.

A good starter for new-comers.

KY 15

KY 15

KY15, as it's more commonly known, is a white stemmed high yielding Kentucky Burley. It has good resistance to most tobacco diseases. It is a columnar formed plant with large closely spaced leaves. Our grows have produced no suckers. Leaves turn yellow as it ripens, curling down around the edges. Maturity is 60-65 days. It has excellent curability and leaves dry an orange brown.

Oxford 207 is a bright leaf variety that was developed in North Carolina. It has good resistance to bacterial wilts and blank shank disease. It grows to 5 feet and is a very good producer of high quality leaf. Matures in 60 days. Flue cures to a bright golden yellow color.

Corojo 99 is a hybrid decedent of the original El Corojo seed from Cuba in the 1930's. It is sometimes called a sister of Habano 2000. Corojo 99 is larger and much more disease resistant than the original strain, but still produces a dark brown silky grained wrapper with with a rich spicy cedar aroma. It is one of a few wrappers that does well in both sun or shade. The plants grow to 7-8 feet in height and produce 18 - 20 leaves on average. Maturity is 75 - 80 days from planting.

When cured the leaves have a reddish to light brown color. It is classed as filler-leaf type. Has a pleasant, mild aroma when cured.

NC 95 is a well developed bright leaf with closely spaced leaves, very little suckering, and a overall height of 5 feet. The plants produce an average of 24 - 26 leaves up to 24 inches in length and 16 inches wide giving very good yields. The leaves yellow at the edges and become mottled when ripe. Maturity is 65 - 70 days. NC 95 flue cures easily and dries to a bright golden brown.

African Red

African Red

African Red is a premium bright leaf tobacco variety prised for its exceptional growing characteristics and excellent horticultural traits. These authentic tobacco seeds, originally sourced from Transvaal, South Africa, produce plants with distinctive light green leaves and striking white stems.

This vigorous tobacco plant reaches impressive heights of 8 feet (200cm) at first crowsfoot, featuring a strong columnar growth pattern. The mature 10th leaf spans 28 inches (60cm), making it an excellent choice for both commercial and personal tobacco cultivation. With an 80-day maturation period, African Red offers reliable and predictable harvests.

When flue-cured, the leaves develop a sought-after bright yellow to light reddish-brown color characteristic of premium bright leaf tobacco. Argentinean Sylvestris

Argentinean Sylvestris (often known as Woodland Tobacco and sometimes sold under the garden name “Only the Lonely”) is a vigorous wild-type tobacco native to Argentina, grown more for ornament and blending than for end-product use.

It forms a strong, upright plant reaching around 5 ft (150 cm) in height, with a broad display of soft green leaves that can grow up to 20 inches (50 cm) long. The plant has a full, leafy appearance and develops quickly in warm, sunny conditions, often filling out into a striking feature plant in the garden.

One of its most distinctive traits is its flowering. It produces long stems topped with clusters of elegant, drooping white flowers that release a strong, sweet fragrance, especially in the evening. These blooms are highly attractive to pollinators and give the plant a dramatic presence, particularly when grown as a standalone specimen — which is where the nickname “Only the Lonely” is thought to come from.

Pennsylvania Red is a rich full flavored tobacco and a long favoured by growers for large red-brown leaves. It grows to 5 feet in height and has very large long deep colored leaves reaching 3' in length. A very good producer that matures in 65-70 days. The leaves cure to a deep reddish brown.

This is a white stemmed heirloom Burley that grows 5-6 feet in height. It produces few suckers and its pyramidal plant form with closely spaced leaves give it good wind resistance. The leaves are up to 30 inches long, turn a light yellow when ripe and are easy to cure. Matures in 60-65 days.

A Virginia Bright Leaf variety that is a Virginia bright-leaf type with full leaf flavour. It matures early at 55 days. The dark green leaves are thick and closely spaced on the stalk. They lighten in color as they ripen with yellowing at the edges and flue cure to a rich golden brown.

Southern Beauty is an heirloom bright leaf which is quick and vigorous grower to over 6 feet. Leaves are light in color and grow to 30" long and 16" wide. Matures in 55 days and gives very good yields. Flue cures to a bright golden yellow.

A well developed white stemmed burley with high yields and good disease resistance. It is a tall columnar plant with upright leaves and a growth pattern similar to TN 90. The plants reach a height of 7-8 feet with up to 24-28 leaves measuring from 24 to 30 inches in length and 12 to 16 inches wide. The upright leaves shed water well in heavy rains and it has good wind resistance. The light green leaves turn a bright golden yellow as they ripen. Maturity is about 75 days after planting out. Blue Star 100 is very easy to cure.

Little Dutch is an heirloom variety dating back to the 1880's. It is a sweet aromatic heirloom type with narrow leaves growing up to 30" long. The long narrow leaves are classed as wrapper-leaf type. It matures in only 45 days and is a good choice for container growing.

Aztec Rustica

Aztec Rustica

Aztec Rustica (originally from Easter Island) is native to Central and South America. It grows to 30 inches high with abundant bright yellow flowers that are very attractive to bees and humming birds.

Flowering lasts up to two months. Leaves air cure to a medium to dark brown and air-cure to a mild character. Aztec has a very high nicotine content, has very high alkaloid content — handle with care.

The leaves are often used by home gardeners to make a very effective insecticide by soaking them in water to make a "tea". The tea is then sprayed onto vegetables and flowers and lasts up to six weeks. Grows well in cool climates and tolerates frost.

A graceful tobacco which can grow very tall, thus the name tree. They can grow up to 20 ft. Their flowers are bright yellow and are very striking against the blue foliage. Also makes a lovely garden specimen. Primarily grown as an ornamental garden specimen with very low nicotine. Also useful as a low-nicotine accent in mixed breeding lines.

Developed in Canada by crossing wild Rustica tobacco with two popular American varieties, Hicks Broad-leaf and Virginia 115. The result is a high-yielding, high-nicotine cultivar. It grows to 5 feet and produces large, wide, heavy grade light green leaves. Del Gold is one of the best known varieties for commercial tobacco production. Matures in 70-75 days.
